Is Your Routine the Reason Your Hair’s Stuck?
If your hair feels stuck (no growth, no change, same dryness every week) your routine might be the problem.
Sometimes it feels like your hair just… stops.
It doesn’t look longer. It doesn’t feel stronger.
And you’re wondering why.
You might think it’s the products. Or maybe your hair just “doesn’t grow.”
But for most people, it’s not the hair.
It’s the routine.
Here are five reasons your routine could be the thing holding you back.
1. You’re doing the right steps in the wrong order
You might have good products — a good shampoo, a good conditioner, a nice leave-in, maybe even a cream or an oil.
But the way you use them, and the order you use them, matters.
If you put oil on dry hair first, it keeps everything else from soaking in.
If you deep condition before you wash, your hair won’t take in what it needs.
Always start with clean hair.
Then add moisture. That might be a leave-in or a deep conditioner.
Rinse or leave it in as needed.
Then lock in the moisture with something heavier, like a sealing oil.
Castor oil or jojoba oil work great for that.
It’s the same way you get dressed.
You don’t put your coat on before your shirt.
And you don’t put on your shoes before your socks.
Hair works the same way.
2. You’re not consistent
Your hair needs care over time — not just once in a while.
If you deep condition one week and skip the next, or if you change your wash day products every time, your hair might be fine — but it won’t feel the same each week.
So if you’ve ever wondered why your hair feels horrible one week and amazing the next, it’s probably because you’re not doing the same thing every time.
Your hair needs consistency with moisture, protein, and overall care to build the strength it needs.
You can’t use a bond builder once a year and expect to get all the benefits.
You can’t deep condition your hair once every few months and expect it to stay moisturized.
You have to keep up with your treatments and follow what your hair actually needs.
Your hair needs habits.
Moisture needs to be added often.
Your scalp needs to stay clean.
And your ends need to stay sealed.
Even a simple routine can work — if you stick with it and do what you’re supposed to.
3. Your routine isn’t made for your hair
A routine that works for someone else will probably not work for you.
It’s not because your hair is bad or because they know something you don’t.
It’s because their hair is different.
Some hair types need thicker products.
Some need lighter ones.
Some hair dries out really fast.
Some holds on to moisture for too long.
Porosity, density, strand thickness — these all change what your hair needs.
If you copy someone with a totally different hair type, you might be doing more harm than good.
You don’t need to follow trends.
You need to follow what your hair actually needs.
And if you don’t feel like figuring all of that out on your own, I build custom routines for paid subscribers for $5 a month based on your hair type, porosity, density, and goals.

4. You’re doing too much
Sometimes we think we have to do a lot for our hair to grow.
But the truth is, doing too much can be worse than doing too little.
If you're always switching styles, always adding new products, always touching your hair, it doesn’t get time to rest.
Your ends start breaking off before you can even see your new growth.
That’s why a lot of people think their hair isn’t growing — when really, they’re just doing too much.
Too much on wash day.
Too much manipulation.
Too much product.
It’s not helping. It’s actually slowing you down.
I know we want to believe that more is better.
But with your hair, less really is more.
Give your hair some space.
Let it recover. Let it breathe.
Give it what it needs — and keep it simple.
5. You’re not giving it enough time
A routine is not a quick fix. It’s a long game.
Many people stop too early when they feel like they don’t see any progress.
Four to eight weeks is a good place to start to see if your hair actually feels any different.
That’s how long it takes to really know if something is helping or hurting.
Do not rush it. Don’t rush the process.
Give your hair what it needs and give it some time to show you what it can do.
Some people need to do a couple of shampoos before their hair starts becoming more defined.
Some people need to do a few moisture treatments before they start seeing real improvement in softness or hydration.
Your hair is not the problem.
The way you care for it might be.
Look at your habits. Look at your schedule.
Are you helping your hair grow — or just hoping it does?
And if you don’t feel like figuring all of this out for yourself, I can definitely help you..
